Minimum Hardware Requirements for openSUSE Leap 16.0


Applies To

OpenSUSE upgrade performing from version Leap 15.6 to Leap 16.0.

Problem

Systems that do not meet the minimum hardware requirements for openSUSE Leap 16.0 may fail to upgrade or experience instability after the upgrade.

Cause

openSUSE Leap 16.0 introduces updated base system components and kernel versions that require a higher baseline of hardware capability compared to previous releases.

Solution/Workaround

Before proceeding with the upgrade, verify that the system meets the minimum hardware requirements for the target architecture.

In case the minimum requirements are not met, please create a new VM according to the minimum hardware requirements and perform a migration. Please refer to this article.

Additional recommendation

Alert

To make sure the RPM database is correct. Please run the following commands before starting the OS update:

rpm -qa | wc -l
rpmdb --verifydb

rpm --define='%_db_backend ndb' --verbose --rebuilddb
sed -ri 's/^(%_db_backend[[:space:]]+)bdb$/\1ndb/g' /usr/lib/rpm/macros

At the end, make sure that ClamAV is up and running:

systemctl status clamd
systemctl start clamd
